Industrial globalization has radically altered our natural environment in the last century. It has only been in the last few decades that we have begun to truly understand what the implications of this are. Topics covered in the Global Sustainability Series, such as solutions to deforestation, overfishing, and water mismanagement, need revision for the human species to survive.  Roper Research reports, “We are moving past the time when we can rely on a cadre of environmental experts to fix our environmental problems… (because the) problems are caused by individuals and small entities”. The same report finds 80% of American citizens are largely uninformed about challenging environmental choices.

The media has focused primarily on “hot” stories describing the impacts of globalization on the environment with dire and dramatic reports. This causes many people to feel overwhelmed, resigning themselves to the belief that there is no recourse. Others want to make a difference, but don't know how. To inspire people to action for lasting social change, Watermelon Seed Productions is creating a series of 13 documentaries about how communities are combating the world’s most crucial environmental problems through implementing sustainable solutions.

The engaging cinematography and compelling storytelling of the Global Sustainability Series will attract broad audiences to spread the message to as many people worldwide as possible through TV. This broad viewing will share proven sustainable practices that other communities and individuals can incorporate, which enforces empowerment that our actions can and do make a difference.
